  1. even though I am not a fan of reading, I'm quite interested in anything made at the time of the second world war. So for me the choice would be "The Fallen". On the other hand when I was just a wee boy my dad would always talk about "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest," Which now makes me interested about the story because I take quite the intrest in things my dad does. however when he would tell me of the book I was small and I really likeed toucans so I just thought it was about a bird much like the toucan. In the end I would love to Read "The Fallen" over the winter break (hopefully I would finish ) but I wouldn't like to be the only person reading.

  2. (From a previous blog post)
I personally like the sounds of the book you said you read recently, "The Fallen", however "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest" seems to have many more obvious themes, and is a classic that I'd very much like to read. This being said, I'm happy with either book. The idea of leaving with a book for Christmas break and coming back having completed it doesn't really appeal to me. I'd like to meet at least twice throughout the book to talk about it because I always find that the discussions in lit studies brings my attention to things I don't normally focus on. Would those wanting to participate be willing to meet twice over the Christmas break to discuss whatever book we choose?

Mitchell Jones made a reply that we would be able to meet after every chapter on the blog, and this seems perfect to me. Would you (Mr Marshall) be willing to do a blog guided lit study or would you like myself or another student to start up a blog for the duration of the book? I don't know about everyone else, but I'd really like to be able to create posts to get discussions going on thought provoking aspects of the book.

  3. I'm completely willing to participate if anyone else is willing. I'd be happy to read either of the books, but if pressed I'd probably prefer "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest". I also think Mitch's idea of organizing/meeting/whatever online sounds pretty good.

  4. I think the idea of my participating in a student-directed lit blog is one of the best student ideas I've EVER heard of in my whole teaching career. That is a perfect example of using technology to enable an activity that otherwise would be difficult. I won't be available for tutorials during the break, but I will be able to participate in the blog. A cliche I like goes like this: "give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for life." If you are feeling empowered to do this then my job here is probably done. We have "OFOTCN" (Cuckoo's Nest)and a study pack available today. I would have to order "The Fallen" at about $30 per copy - maybe "OFOTCN" would be easier - it is about 30% longer than The Fallen.

  5. Well I can also email you ideas for blog entries on subjects I wish to discuss.
Personally, I'm willing to buy my own copy of The Fallen.

  6. I am personally more interested in reading "The Fallen", but like Rowan would be willing to read either. I think that the student run blog is a great idea and would take alot of stress off of Mr. Marshall. I'm still wondering how we are going to be getting marked and getting credit for this?
