  1. I am reading the Fallen, the novel is very discriptive, and makes a good mental image in my mind, so far the book is very intresting and makes me want to read more and more! My first impression was good, the book has lots of twist and turns, and lots of scenes that pull you into the novel.

  2. I am reading the Fallen and my first impression was that the book is very descriptive. When you read something it's not just like oh this guy did this period, it continues to give you more detail so that you can get lots of images in your head.

Another part of the Fallen is that it has a lot of foreshadow that is clearly obvious and it makes you want to continue on.

  3. When I started reading 1984 I didn't really understand and it was a little hard to follow. It kept jumping to different settings of to where he was. It was getting confusing but as I read on I'm starting to understand more of what is going on.

  5. Im reading the fallen. Im finding the book interesting although the language is some what hard sometimes it is a interesting beginning to the story. This book has alot of imagery which is sometimes gross and hard to believe. I found it a bit confusing when it kept changing characters and scenes but i caught on quickly.

  6. I am really enjoying reading The Fallen. It is a very descriptive book with lots of detail. I like this because you can watch it more accurately in your head, yet still have the freedom to imagine it the way I want to.

  8. I'm reading Brave New World. It's very intriguing, and also a new way of looking at people, their thought process, and the world itself. I've read up to the third chapter, and so far, it seems as though it's already happened in this world. They way they "create" the embryos and place them into different categories, and not just by chance, but purposefully making them have different amount of things they need to be smart, or less smart, what kind of job they'll have, what their personality is like, things they like personally, hobbies, or even who they like. So far, I really like it, and can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

  9. "Brave New World" - I find that the book is very interesting throughout the first few chapters. Originally, I thought the novel was going to be somewhat slow. Now I find that I almost can't put it down, during some of the detailed actions that take place. The use of scientific language in the first and second chapters, created great images for me. I did not know this book was written in the 1930's until about yesterday. Which interested me because of the use of the helicopter. To people in the 1930's the helicopter was a thing of great triumph, and wasn't even used that much until the end of the second world war. I would recommend anybody that likes futuristic books, to read this very interesting novel.

  10. Last year, I got "The Fallen" as a birthday gift and read it right away, which for me is odd; I'm usually too busy to read "for pleasure" and have to wait for a holiday. The novel's historical setting and the fact that one of the central characters is Canadian caught my initial interest. This week, as I began to re-read the novel, I was pleased to find that the fact that I know the plot didn't detract from my enjoyment of the writing. I agree with the Emily, Shyla, and Savanna: it has a very descriptive style with lots of strong imagery. The author managed to "hook" me, again.

  11. In the book 'The Fallen' I find it quite an easy read. It keeps my interest unlike some of the school issued books in the past. The book tell me about how life was in Naples, Italy, during the war through 3 different characters. Each character has a very different story but all entwine in the through out. The stories are descriptive and captivating as it takes me through the day to day life of a jobless nephew, field security police officer, and a young woman. Im curious as to how the story will end and what comes of each character.

  12. I am reading the novel 1984 and I enjoy it so far. I especially like the harsh language that Orwell uses; very descriptive and paints a vivd picture in my mind as if I was there. Because I took the course Social Studies 11 I find this book easily to relate with the atmosphere described in times of WW2 under Soviet Union/German dictatorship, the nation consumed under totalitarianism. The idea of absolute censorship, "The Party" watching every and each citizens' actions (including their own thoughts,) is frightening to me, and is totally out of my grasp of understanding because of the freedom of where I live. The start of this novel is moving pretty slow, and it is hard to see where this story will go. However, I have been able to start forming predictions for the novel and I am interested to see if they will play out as I think.

  14. My first impression of the novel The Fallen:

It is written in a way that is easy to understand. I find the book very interesting and I enjoy reading about more than one person. The multiple stories gives me a better perspective on the people who lived through this time. Some parts of the book create very graphic images. Such as the dying donkey in the middle of the street and the dead woman being carried out on stretchers, face disfigured. Their individual stories are quite engaging and i picture myself being there in Naples, Italy. I am excited to read further into the novel.

  15. In the first few pages of The Fallen, the author goes into very much detail when describing the landscapes, people, and various other things in the book. I like all the detail because i can visualize every single little detail. But I don't get caught up in all the detail. I can still follow the plot and the mood of the book. Its a perfect mix of detail and story.

  16. I find that so far "Brave New World" is a very provoking, stimulating, shocking and dazzling read. It includes such a unusual amount of ingenious wit and derisive logic. As well as it seems to give a warning of what may happen if scientific advances were to proceed in such a uncontrolled fashion in modern day society. I look forward to finding out what will happen and therefore will continue reading until i reach the last page.

  17. When I began reading 1984, I really didn't know what to expect. I had no ideas or expectations. My first impression of the novel was that it seemed very intriguing, but somewhat hard to follow. I kept an open mind to it and continued, sometimes going back and re-reading to get a better understanding. As I progressed further into the novel, I gained a complete understanding as to what was going on. Although it was hard to comprehend in the beginning, the novel is actually very descriptive and that helps set a better image in my mind and I feel like I am Winston's shoes. As related to what Kari said, I feel I have a better grasp on the dictatorship taking place in the novel because I did take Socials 11. Overall, the novel is very interesting and I can't wait to see where things lead.

  18. I'm reading 1984 and I'm a few chapters in. From the beginning there is a battlefield setting to the book. I can tell that the story is during a dark time and the main character is struggling. I find that the most disturbing aspect is to not have ones mind to them self, that anything a person thinks about is potentially out there for the world. That is something so sacred to a person that nothing else could measure up to. I haven't quite had the chance to get into this book deeply, enough I feel but I hope to soon.
