  1. Well first, in general I've noticed that Holden really dislikes phonys, which how he described Ossenburger as being. He enjoys putting on an act and joking around. He also seems to notice and remember the little things for example how Jane used to save all her kings in the back row and keep them there. Then there's Ackley and I can get why Holden finds him annoying.

  2. This doesn't entirely have to do with relationships but I have noticed that Holden was talking and reminssing(sp) about Jane alot so I think that may be foreshadowing that she could come into the story at some point or play a role in it

  3. That's a good point Carly, I think that either you are right on that , or that the part is expressing how Holden might have been a bit jealous of Stradlater, in more than just that way. As for the Chapter, I think it might be showing the behavior of a couple of the students of Pencey to prove that they are in fact creeps and arrogant people who would try to get you to write their assignment so that they could date your childhood friend.

  4. I am really starting to enjoy this book and i third Carly and Ryleigh's predictions on how Jane will become part of the plot. I'd have to agree with Holden about how Ackley is irritating, because I know I wouldn't like to have a nosy kid in my business 24/7. I also see that there may be some conflict over Jane between Holden and Stradlater coming soon.

  5. Well i found the chapter to be slightly boring but it had alot of character and relationship building between Holden, Stradlater and Ackley. I also noticed that Holden seemed to be obsessing about jane which i think is a forshadow that she with return later in the book

  6. Although what you guys say makes sense and he does talk about Jane alot, I actually think thats all he's going to do, just talk and think about her. She seems important to him but I don't think her physical character will actually come into the story.

  7. I think that this chapter was interesting because you get to know more about Holden. It shows that he is very observative of whats going on aroung him and can remember the smallest details about a person. Although he can get annoyed at times by his neighbour Ackley he also likes to joke around and have fun.

  10. Holden seems to have such a wondering mind and in this chapter he proves to go on and on about things. I'm really starting to get into this book. Also I agree with how Jane may have a appearance later on. I believe also Holden has kind of weird relationships with the people around him.

  11. I think Holden was obsessing over Stradlater's date Jane, so I agree with my classmates when they predict that she will appear later on in the story. The character Holden is growing on me because of his playful attitude that showed when he would do a silly thing to amuse himself. Holden seems to remember the smallest details about a person and this is showing how observant he is about other people and the world. Over all i thought this chapter was okay but im looking forward to read what will happen next.

  12. Holden seems to be a controvercial character because he dosen't act like you would expect a kid getting expelled would act, and i also agree with everyone else about the whole Jane idea and how we figure she will be apart of the story later on. I find Holden's ability to remember every detail about a persons behavior very intriguing and I'm wondering if that will become more clear later on in the story.
