  2. In the story The Man and The Sea i chose the word heroic. I chose this word because Santiago is strong, brave and no matter what he will keep going. For example when he is out fishing his hand is hurt and his back is cut up from the fishing line but he fights and still he catches Marlin. Nothing will make him give up.

  3. "Perseverance" is the word I have chosen to represent TOMATS. At the beginning of this story, Santiago has gone 84 days without catching a fish. However, he goes out again knowing that if he sticks it out, he will catch a fish eventually. Also, he holds onto the line of the great fish for a long time, no matter how bad his pain becomes. This word seems to best reflect both Santiago's character and the plot of the novella.

  4. I chose the word "noble", because Santiago was always respectful to everyone else despite some people's mocking. Furthermore, with all the things he did he stuck by his concrete morals..... He kept calling the marlin noble when in fact he should have been describing himself.

  5. The word that comes to mind when i think of The Old Man and The Sea is courage. I think this word best describes Santiago, because he has the courage to go alone on the ocean, and battle a Marlin with nothing but string and a harpoon. In addition he does many courageous acts to fend for himself when he is at sea, including fighting off the sharks.

  6. The word I chose to represent The Old Man And The Sea was understanding because the old man has the understanding of life. He just seems to get what it means to live in this world. It seems only days that I wish i had this sudden understanding, but im ,for sure im not this old man. People who have this understanding often come once and a awhile and it seems Ernest Hemingway captured the image of the old man from the sea.

  7. I feel that the word resolution connected with The Old Man an the Sea. This is not only because Santiago would say that he had it in times of doubt, but because it means to have a firm decision to do something. It is also related to courage, and being able to face any odds in order to reach a goal. It is a powerful word that sums up his determination and strength.

  8. "Tough" is the word i chose cause like nothing describes that word better then some old Cuban guy floating around in the Gulf of Mexico attached to this fish without hardly any food or water and then after he catches the swordfish he has to battle hoards of sharks while sailing back to his village like this guy is a mans man.

  9. I chose the word stubborn cause it represents Santiago so perfectly. He never gives up trying to catch fish and, when he catches the marlin. Santiago also fights off sharks with any weapon he can find in order to save his fish, he just never gives up no matter what. This is why i chose Santiago as being stubborn.

  10. I chose the word "Confident" as my theme for TOMATS. Because Santiago was showing confidence that he could catch the marlin himself. And that he was determined that he could get the job done by himself. He was determined and confident that he could catch the marlin.

  11. I chose the word "strength" for my theme of TOMATS because it is a huge part of the story. It takes a tremendous amount of mental and Physical strength to be able to stay with a huge fish out at sea for 3 days. Also the strength of both man and fish to endure the pain the other was giving.

  13. The best word that came to mind when I think of the story The Old Man And The Sea would be dedication. Santiago is dedicated to catching a big fish because that is what he "was born for." Although he has spent 84 days without any luck catching a fish, he will still keep trying. Santiago does not give up even when his hands and back start to hurt or with barely no sleep and food. He stays strong and perseveres through his journey till the end.

  14. I chose passion as my word for The Old Man And The Sea. This passion is the determination that is driven by his love for fishing and it gives one a greater look into his character. He Never gives up when he out alone at sea, he only focuses on one thing, fishing. It's what he loves, it's his passion.
